The war
The Gameboy has always lived with competiton. But this time it isn't the Gameboy, it's the Nintendo DS vs the Sony PSP.
First, I'll go over the pro's and con's of each system. Then, I'll debate each system, and finally, I will decide the winner.
First up, The Nintendo DS:
Pros:
1) 2 screens
2) 2 processors
3) Built in pictochat
4) Surround sound
5) 3D graphics
Cons:
1) Kind of bulky
2) It can be uncomfortable to use
The Sony PSP
Pros:
1) Widescreen
2) high resolution
3) Comes with headphones and carrying case.
4) looks at photos, plays movies, plays music
The verdict:
Ok.
Graphics: This one goes to the PSP. The PSP has better graphics by far, at nearly PS2 quality, while the Nintendo DS has N64 graphics, but may display up to PS1 graphics.
Sound: The thing that is bothering me is people say the PSP has better sound. At least, that's the case with The Judgement Day, at G4TV.com. The Nintendo DS has better sound, with its virtual surround sound.
The Nintendo DS has 2 screens. The PSP has 1, high resolution screen. Which is better, 2 seperate screens (which is highly innvative) , or one high resolution screen. I'll go with Sony on this one, however the Nintendo gets it for innovativeness, the Nintendo DS is already being used in very clever ways, such as using the bottom screen and top screen to interjoin graphics, and to interact with games in a brand new way, by touch!
The sony PSP has better media. It can play music, movies, look at photos, or games. Today I went to walmart and saw several new movies came out for the PSP in UMD format. Including, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Kill Bill Vol.1, and Resident Evil. Most of them were a measly , but some were .
I'm wondering if Nintendo will come out with a way to play movies too. Will it be small cards like it has? Or will play-yan overrule?
Nintendo might have some competiton with Sony with it's play-yan. Supposedly, you can play movies and music on your Nintendo DS and GBA with this device. I am still researching this.
Sony is already online, with games like Twisted Metal:Head On! It's quite a bit of fun. Nintendo has proposed to go online in the future. And it will.
On matters of cost, this one goes to Nintendo. The sony PSP cost a whooping .99, which is by far the most any handheld has cost.
The Sony PSP load times can be slow because it uses a disc and has moving parts. This also makes it more susustible to damage. The Nintendo DS has no moving parts, and uses sleek cards. This one goes to Nintendo.
All in all, I'll have to say Sony has it better than Nintendo right now. This could change in the future, with play-yan for the Nintendo DS. However, the launch of games at Nintendo for the Nintendo DS is VERY slow, and I'm losing my patience.
I've always been a Nintendo fan, and have both systems.
